Innovative Ovens and Steam Cookers from Miele of Germany

Every year the Australian International Design Awards pay homage to those innovative designs and inventions that represent design excellence and make our lives better. This year’s entries include two modern kitchen appliances from German manufacturer Miele that represent the future of convection and steam cooking around the world. Here are the two entries which include the Miele Combi Steam Cooker and Miele’s 90 cm Pyrolytic Oven, touted as “the best oven in the world“. I being into the aesthetics can’t help but notice the cool modern look which always makes things more acceptable.

The success of the Miele Combi Steam Cooker is attributable to its versatility which is ideal for roasting, baking and steaming vegetables, fish, side dishes and deserts. This multifunctional kitchen appliance operates with dry heat and moist steam. In the steam cooker mode, it has all the features of previous Miele steam cookers but if dry heat is required, the appliance can be used as a fan-forced convection oven. The process of baking and roasting using a sequence of humid and dry conditions is simplified with electronically controlled automatic programs, which ensure superior results. The order of dry and humid cooking phases can be manually set for specific duration and humidity levels. The cooking process, which continuously measures the relative humidity taking even the intrinsic moisture in the food into consideration, is unique on this appliance.
When Miele set out to produce the world’s most innovative oven they knew it would require more that just a face lift and a few bells and whistles, rather features that would enhance and simplify the cooking process. To do this Miele included “MoisturePlus” cooking, a wireless “RoastProbe” food thermometer and sensor-controlled pyrolytic cleaning system. The MoisturePlus feature automatically takes in the right amount of water via a filler tube on the door frame to ensure perfect roasting and baking results as it is dispensed as steam into the oven cavity. There is also an integrated rotisserie that is fired by two powerful fans to guarantee uniform cooking results and rapid heating while the AirClean converter prevents the release of cooking odors and greasy vapors from depositing in the kitchen. Other features include LED control panel, more than 100 automatic cooking programs, Miele’s new fingerprint resistant “CleanSteel” exterior, quadruple-glazed “CleanGlass” oven door, and solid-state electronics with no moving parts to ensure reliability.
You can see all of the inventive designs and products up for consideration in this year’s Australian International Design Awards here. I have a feeling even if these two ovens from Miele don’t win the award this year you will still see them and their new features as standard additions on all ovens in the future.
