“Leaves of Grass” Coat Rack Is a Handmade Work of Art

Frank Lloyd Wright and Walt Whitman would totally appreciate the sentiment behind Peter Loh’s “Leaves of Grass” coat rack – Wright because of its naturalist aesthetic, and Whitman for the obvious shout-out.  At $1200 apiece, they’re clearly on the spendy side, but for good reason: Loh crafts each coat rack by hand, carefully steam-bending and custom-fitting every stave of birch into the next with care so that each rack is truly an original.  The intended effect is inspired by swaying grasses, as the title implies.  Near the top of each piece is a small notch in which to anchor your coats, scarves and other garments, although the piece itself could stand alone as a work of art rather than an object of function.  (Dimensions: 73’ tall x 26” in diameter)
