Ethan Allen tries its hand at a modern interpretation of a rather classic piece: the Chippendale side chair. Named after 18th-century English cabinetmaker and furniture designer Thomas Chippendale, known as an establishing influence on the style of the day, the chair takes on a more streamlined appearance in EA’s current version. Giving it a modern transitional treatment with a black finish, a tall back and an ornate yet not overpowering aesthetic, today’s admittedly suburban birch and poplar version is still timeless and actually rather striking. 40” height, 21” width, 22.5” depth, 19.5” seat height. $349.
